Safety is Everything

To be able to just be. Focusing only on dreams and visions and possibilities and not worrying about fitting in or made to feel conscious.

Isolated and Vulnerable

Isolation and vulnerability are significant issues faced by African women in Europe, stemming from a combination of gender discrimination, and socio-economic disparities. Many African women experience a sense of alienation in predominantly white societies, which can lead to social isolation. This is exacerbated by cultural stereotypes and biases that often marginalise their voices and experiences.

Additionally, African women may encounter barriers in accessing education, employment, and healthcare, increasing their vulnerability to poverty and discrimination. The intersectionality of race and gender means that they often bear the brunt of both racial and sexist violence, further compromising their safety and well-being. Community support networks can be limited, making it challenging for them to find solidarity and resources. Addressing these issues requires a comprehensive approach that promotes inclusivity, equity, and systemic change.

Going Deeper Creating a Safe Haven For Our Women

Exploitation is a critical issue faced by African women in Europe, manifesting in various forms such as labor exploitation, trafficking, and economic disenfranchisement. Many African women find themselves in precarious employment situations, often in low-paying, insecure jobs that offer little protection or benefits. This vulnerability is heightened for migrant women, who may be more susceptible to exploitative labour practices due to their legal status and lack of access to support systems.

Isolation

Community support networks can be limited, making it challenging for African Women in the diaspora to find solidarity and resources that empowers and educate them

Exploitation

This exploitation can occur in various sectors, including domestic work, agriculture, and the sex industry, where they face significant risks and limited recourse for justice.

Fears

This climate of fear can lead to social withdrawal and isolation, further limiting their access to resources and support networks. Dismantle stereotypes and promote safety.
