How We Help

Creating Safe Spaces

Recommendation: Many of us face systemic challenges in the workplace, education, and daily life, from micro-aggressions to discrimination. At AWGS, we understand the importance of community and support in overcoming these barriers. Through our dedicated WhatsApp group, monthly Zoom sessions, and
in-person meetings, we create spaces where women can freely share experiences, seek advice, and build lasting connections. Whether discussing local initiatives or personal challenges, these spaces provide mentorship, skillbuilding opportunities, and the chance to thrive together in both personal and professional spheres.

Education and lifelong learning

At AWGS, we believe education is a powerful tool for empowerment and growth. Our approach goes beyond traditional learning, recognizing that African women in the diaspora bring a wealth of cultural knowledge and lived experiences that enrich
every learning opportunity. Through workshops, skill-building sessions, and peer-to-
peer exchanges, we create an inclusive and supportive environment where women
can share ideas, learn from one another, and strengthen their personal and professional skills. At the heart of our efforts is a commitment to promoting lifelong
learning, ensuring that every woman has the opportunity to grow and thrive at any stage of life.

Addressing Racism & Discrimination

At AWGS, we focus on creating lasting, systemic change by equipping African women in Scotland with the knowledge and tools to challenge racism and discrimination. Through workshops, discussions, and community-led initiatives, we
provide education on the historical and social contexts of racism, empowering our members to become agents of change in their own communities and beyond. We
emphasize collective action, advocacy, and leadership development, helping women to challenge discriminatory systems, influence policies, and advocate for equality in all areas of life.

Promote Cultural Harmony

We believe in the power of cultural pride and collaboration. At AWGS, we foster an inclusive environment where African women can confidently celebrate their cultural identities while embracing the diverse perspectives of others. Our events and activities are designed not only to acknowledge differences but to actively create opportunities for meaningful connections, collaboration, and learning. By bringing women from different backgrounds together, we strengthen our community and promote unity, both within AWGS and in the wider Scottish society
